Commercial Prawn Traps

All sizes and styles are proven producers. Preferences are often determined by local fishing conditions, vessel size and regulations.

Frame material can be mild steel (plastic dipped) or stainless steel. Additional weight can be provided with a heavier bottom ring or a double bottom ring.

Tunnel rings are standard 3" stainless. They are woven into the web and aligned with the bait cup with rubber banding.

Web is 1.5" mesh sewed to the frame with .25" poly rope top and bottom. A bottom drawstring allows for quick opening of the traps and easy access to the suspended bait cup.

Tapered design allows for tight stacking in transit. Most traps come complete with a braided poly bridle and 5/16" or 3/8" stainless snaps. See the supply page for bait cups, snaps and ground line.

Sizes for the US fishery include:

• 36 inch
• 39 inch - (24 inch height on request)
• 42 inch
• 48 inch - (24 inch height on request)

Web used for S.E. Alaska commercial pots is 1 3/4" stretch measure set up on the trap such that a 7/8" dowel will pass through the web on its own weight. For the shrimp fishery we standardly use a 1 1/8" stretch measure which gives about a 1/2" square opening.
